L'éditeur Universal vient enfin de dévoiler une date précise pour la sortie de Gladiator en Blu Ray ! Le chef d'oeuvre de Ridley Scott est prévu le 1er septembre 2009 ! Retrouvez dans la suite le visuel non définitif, la liste des suppléments, ainsi que le communiqué de presse d'Universal (anglais seulement).

Attention, l'éditeur a annoncé le 16/07 un report du Blu Ray pour le 1er octobre pour "peaufinement technique".

Résumé : L'Esclave qui défia un empire. Né pour incarner Maximus, glorieux général déchu, Russel Crowe défie un Empire décadent, corrompu, incestueux et parricide, pour accomplir une destinée héroïque. L'homme est trahi, spoilié, vaincu mais altier. Sa force est immense, sa colère aussi. L'arène sera la scène de sa vengeance. Universal Pictures International Entertainment (UPIE), the international home entertainment distribution division of Universal Pictures, is proud to announce that epic adventure Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe, will make its Blu-ray debut on 1st September 2009 in the Benelux.

Eddie Cunningham, President of Universal Pictures International Entertainment said, “I am delighted that we will be releasing Gladiator on Blu-ray internationally this year. Gladiator is an important title in Universal’s Blu-ray strategy as it will resonate with a large cross section of mainstream consumers, giving us an ideal opportunity to showcase the incredible capabilities of the Blu-ray format as we move into our busiest trading period of the year.”

This format defining release will be presented on two BD 50 dual-layer discs and will include 11 hours of extra content. The first disc will include both the theatrical and extended version of the film, audio commentary, deleted scenes and the Vision of Elysium: Topic Portal a new U-Control feature that will allow viewers to tag moments of interest throughout the film and create a ‘shopping list’ of topics to learn about in the supplements on disc two. The second disc also includes Strength and Honour: Creating the World of Gladiator, the definitive documentary on the origin, product and impact of the film.

Gladiator picked up 5 Academy Awards® and tells the story of Maximus Decimus (played by Crowe) a Roman general who is betrayed by the corrupt prince Commodus. Captured and enslaved along the outer fringes of the Roman Empire, Maximus rises through the ranks of the gladatorial arena to avenge the murders of his family and his emperor. The Universal / Dreamworks co-production captured people’s hearts when released in May 2000 and grossed a massive $457,640,427 at the box office. It is also one of Universal’s best selling DVDs of all time, selling over 5,372,000 million units worldwide since 2004.
